SONG REVIEW CRITERIA

The West Coast continues to deliver talented artists who understand their sound and Kyee is here to prove that very point. "L.M.S.M" is a heartfelt bubbly song reminiscent of the 00's ear RnB; it is funky; it pops; and it is beautifully melodic. The song samples Mooreyardi's "It's Gon Be Alright," and offers a beautiful chorus in return. With the accompanied music video, Kyee delivers a colorful visual to this love song. The video is so fun! Kyee even incorporates a dance ensemble, which is one of the truest signs of a talented artist. It's giving Beyoncé, y'all.

Bop: If you enjoy Beyoncé, or appreciate Lauryn Hill's pen, then you'll love this song. Kyee is an Oakland native, so it is only appropriate that she delivers a bop that is all encompassing of the phenomenal artist that she is. This song is even more amplified by the incredible music video which features dancing and playfulness from the cast. Kyee's "L.M.S.M" is a bop, for sure. You will absolutely enjoy this song and the music video (linked here).

Airpods Quality: It is rare to have heard such a beautifully mixed song. This song comes out of your airpods like butter; so smooth and so rich. The guitar isn't too plunky, it falls into the fold of the production-- very hand in hand. Kyee's vocals are also perfect. Nothing more could be done to perfect the sound of this song and how it travels through your ears. Kyee places herself amongst a host of beautifully raspy singers like Mariah Carey, Brandy, and Sade.

Knock Value: Out. Of. The. Park. What a stellar song from an incredible independent artist. "L.M.S.M." is a 10 out of 10 in Knock Value. It is beautifully crafted, it is well produced, it is phenomenally delivered, and well packaged. Kyee is SPITTIN on this song. She gives honor to the beat with her melodic pauses. You can hear the Missy Elliot influence with the space she gives the beat to exist alongside her beautiful voice and lyrics. She even sends us out of the song by adding her vocals to the harmony in the background. Spectacular.

Misogyny Meter: "L.M.S.M." is the song to sub your ex to 😂. It is fully inclusive and can be sang by all (it's even appropriate for the kiddos).

Kyee has a certified banger with this one. It is radio ready and should be getting shopped around to labels immediately. Kyee is a well packaged independent artist with a lot to offer the game. You can tell she has a hip hop influence, but the lady is all soul. Kyee is the next up in the R&B game. We have been awaiting someone like this who can appeal to a younger demographic, but come with some roots as well.

Independent artists have so much to offer, and Uni'Verss is proof. This melodic flowicist is bringing vocals, lyrics, and soul with her single, "Emergency." When I first heard this song, I was absolutely blown away by her vocal stacking and the authenticity of her voice; Uni'verss (Tamara Bradshaw) has a pillowy rasp that draws you in, and lyrics that will wake you up.

ree

Bop: Uni'Verss is a Jamaican artist, born in Chicago, and you can hear the influence in this bouncy song. She offers so much lyrically in this song; it is gentle and political. You can appreciate the rawness in production. There could be more honor to her vocals in the mix. Uni'Verss has a beautiful voice and offers us a lot of layers that I would have loved to hear more of during the lulls of the song. But none of this takes away from the beauty of the song nor message.

AirPods Quality: Immediately, the song comes in hot, so it is perfect for a morning motivation or workout playlist. As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of vocals offered throughout the song and they sway so it gives a lot of auditory joy. Uni'Verss has a great voice and she understands how to layer for her ranges. She is very skilled that way. This song is intricate and delicate, and though it comes in very hot, it plays very well from your airpods.

Knock Value: There is a clear caribbean influence to this song; lyrically and within the production. The bass and drums play like a live band was in the studio with her during its conception. "Emergency" knocks and she knows it; the build up throughout the song is honest and vulnerable. Uni'Verss is an authentic artist that we love to see.

ree

Misogyny Meter: Women continue to dominate on this platform, and thus, songs created by women are often universally palatable because they are inclusive and often vulnerable. Uni'Verss upholds that truth with a beautifully written and empowering wake up call that we all should be listening to; and in that, checking out this song opens the listeners up to honoring the voices of the women around them. We are in a state of emergency, and we should thank the artists that are taking their time (when everyone else seems to be choosing to party through the collapse [which is ALSO totally fine])-- to reflect our current conditions. Nina Simone would be proud.

Earl Sisco has lived in both Flint, Michigan and the West Coast; and here at Plan-A Radio, we LOVE love for the West Coast!

ree

"Back 2 California" is a colorful and fresh summer joint that you can pop on with the whole family. If you've never been to California, Earl Sisco paints a nice picture of our great city.

The mix on this song is a bit rough which takes a bit of its bop quality, but as an indie platform, we understand artists need an opportunity to grow and team up with other producers and engineers who can tighten up their sound on a song. So if you are an indie artist reading this, reach out to Ink or Show and get connected in producers and engineers for opportunities to have your songs mixed and mastered by a certified member of the Plan-A Radio network.

Bop: This is definitely a summer song that is perfect for a backyard barbecue, and with the right mixing on the swing of this song, this could become a certified bop. "Back 2 California" has a funk influence that gives a real 90s vibe. Earl Sisco has lived in LA for some time and that has a clear influence on the production of this song and the imagery of the verses; not to mention, EARL SISCO CAN SANG, not sing SANG. When discussing the song, we all said, "If Snoop was on this song, it would be hit in LA." and I love a historically accurate song, peep the second verse and tell me which landmarks you hear? (Hint: one landmark referenced was the Watts Towers)

AirPods Quality: Be mindful, because of the rawness of the song, this may hit a bit pitchy in your airpods, but you'll still enjoy this song and its background elements without pause. This pitch is not as noticeable in your car or on your laptop... I checked 😉

Knock Value: As mentioned before, it is a bit pitchy, but adding too much knock to a song like this would only take away from the authenticity of Earl Sisco's message and the song. I think the elements of the track, as it is produced, are really genuine and perfect for a summer vibe. Sometimes we like a break from the BOOM BOOM THWAP in our ears. Give Earl Sisco a listen.

Misogyny Meter: This song is definitely appropriate for all audiences. There is the mention of lovely ladies and sunny beaches, and that's what California is all about, right!? Earl Sisco pays homage to his mother with his music, (see: Sounds Of My Mother's Music on Youtube HERE!), so we can be rest assured that he won't be offending the ladies with his music. And fortunately, this song is free of misogyny; it has an abundance of love for the West Coast (frequently referred to as the BEST coast) and shows love to his loved ones, including his sister, Sha'.
